In our ever-changing world, there are individuals whose expertise and passion have led them to make significant contributions and change the way we perceive and interact with the world around us – I would consider myself one of those, the Elon Musk of water.
Among these high-value individuals are water sommeliers, much like me, and professionals who have emerged as influential figures, championing the importance of water and its diverse qualities. In this blog, we will explore the unique role of what I do, in shaping our understanding and appreciation of water.
Redefining Water
I call myself a pioneer for one reason alone, I transform the approach and appreciation of water. Through extensive knowledge and a refined palate, I have elevated water to a status previously reserved for wines and spirits. By curating water menus, conducting tastings, and consulting on the “right water for the right purpose”, I have reshaped the perceptions of this essential resource, turning it into a subject of curiosity and discernment.
When you understand the different sources and regions, water reveals its distinct characteristics, creating the concept of terroir.
Creating Conscious Connections
When we actively engage with our surroundings, we establish a conscious connection that transforms our perceptions.
When we apply this to water, we can find numerous opportunities to connect to this resource. This is the place we want to achieve in the world of water, where we become deliberate and conscious of water.
I was interviewed this week, and asked, “Water is often considered a basic necessity, yet you specialize in elevating water to an art form. Do you believe your work contributes to the deeper understanding of our relationship with this vital resource (water)?” Here’s what I said:
My role holds immense significance in driving the necessary change concerning water. After all, how can we value something we do not understand? My purpose is to initiate conversations, raise awareness, assign value, and make water an accessible and relatable topic for everyone. Despite the declaration of water as a basic human right in 2010, we still lack an emotional connection and appreciation for this vital resource – a pressing global issue. Throughout our education, we learned about the water cycle but neglected to explore its diverse qualities, such as distinct tastes and mineral compositions, which directly contribute to its nutritional value. It is evident that our education system requires a reboot as well. By coming together as a collective, we can solve problems more efficiently than relying solely on individual resources. One quote by Keith Ferrazzi resonates with me: “I realized that it wasn’t a lack of financial resources; it was isolation from the kind of people who could make you more of yourself.” I apply this principle to water every day – how can I establish a network of individuals who can proactively propel the water industry forward at an exponential rate?
Until next week.
